Colour, Resin & Surface Coatings Department |
General Information:
The Colour, Resin & Surface Coatings Department conduct research programmes in the area of technical information and formulating of the surface coatings and printing inks (print on plastics and various types of toners). One of the main targets of the group is to offer scientific and technical service to the industrial sectors. This department regularly holds training courses and seminars for individuals and companies involved in surface coatings and resins industries. Until now, six training short-courses and one national seminar on resins, coatings and related subjects were held in this group. The group activities are divided in three major objectives:
To conduct long-term research into polymeric resin & coating materials
To provide services to industry and carry out short-term contracts
To educate and train engineers and scientists
The current research activities within the department include:
Natural polymer modification for water treatment.
Marine Paints (Elastomeric and self polishing Polymers)
Preparation of starting materials for adhesive, resins, and surface coatings.
Printing inks
Surface Coating with different methods
Surveying the present status and the potential of industry and service issues corresponded to adhesives, surface coatings and variety of resins
Master batch (colour concentrate) for plastics
Coating systems for composites
Synthesis and applicability of the variety of resins
Water soluble/swellable resins
Synthesis and Characterisation of acrylic-based water soluble/swellable polymers
Synthesis and characterisation of pure monomer-based tackifying resins has been another research area of the department.
